Joe Able is no freak. He’s a damn good athlete that uses his mind to make up for his physical shortcomings. Joe is competitive, but he parties a little too much. He’s a streetwise, charismatic high school teacher that grew up and still works in New York. One evening he got drunk, as many teachers do on the brink of their summer vacation. He gets roped into playing a video game in a neighborhood bar just as the establishment is about to close. He loses the game and wakes up in a weird hotel room. The sounds, smells and sights tell him he’s not home anymore. He must quickly adjust to his new world. In this new/old time, he’s the shortstop for the nineteenth century Philadelphia Quakers. Joe gets along pretty well and is comfortable in his new skin. He adapts easily to his new star persona. It’s not difficult since he’s played college and pro-ball. But then he meets her and Joe’s journey really begins.

What a great read! The first thing to say is that it's fun from start to finish. The character dialogue and the thoughts of the narrator had me busting out laughing. Everything about this story was really well crafted. I really appreciated the way the story would frequently leave you with a question and then you'd get your answer from unconventional methods. There were quite a few times where I was left with a "WOW! Didn't see that coming" sensation. It even takes what you think would be some really straightforward events, unscrews the cap off the "Let's Get Weird" spice, and throws in the whole jar. And you don't have to be a baseball fan, don't worry. This book is for anyone who likes a good story, a good laugh, and can handle some steamy "WHOA WHOA WHOA!"Product details

I really enjoyed the book. Love and Baseball, what could be better. Takes fantasy baseball to a whole 'nother level. Can't wait for the next installment of Smokey and Hope's adventures.
Joseph DiBari truly knows how to captivate and hold his audience. If you are an adult reader, interested in baseball nostalgia intertwined with romance and time travel, and are looking for a great story to spark your imagination, Beyond Centerfield is a home run! I am curious to see where Joe Able and Hope Fidi go in the future of this series for sure!
I see no one has mentioned the sex scenes or the rather foul language. The language I could tolerate coming from where it does, men's baseball, but the XXX sex scenes were way to graphic and unneeded for the type of book that this is suppose to be. The story like is good and the characters well developed, didn't like the ending, seemed like the middle of a chapter just to get you to buy the second book.
I enjoy reading baseball stories. Two of my favorites were "Ball Four" by Jim Bouton and "Perfect I'm Not" by David Wells. Although this book is fiction I enjoyed it immensely. The book dives into time travel and the factual baseball history adds to the flavor of the story. There is some steamy romance for adult audiences. You can also learn some geography, American history and enjoy a science lesson or two. The book is very entertaining and enlightening. Amazing how that all fits between just two covers. It's more than a baseball story. You will love some characters and dislike a few. You will learn something you didn't know before. And once you start reading you won't want to stop. I eagerly await the next book in the series because I can't wait to see where Hope and Joe's next adventures take them.

I have to preface this by saying, this is the first book written by Joe Di Bari that I have read, and it is also, not the usual sort of book I would read. I will admit the striking cover attracted me first and after reading the blurb I decided to discover if the story lived up to what I imagined. Joe has a delightful way with words and an intriguing plot which quickly grabbed me from the first page and kept my interest throughout.
Joe DiBari’s Beyond Centerfield was like a Great Gatsby/Inception/50 Shades of Gray mash-up with Da-Vinci-Code-esque mystery and the true underdog sports story that everyone loves! I honestly loved everything about it! It was such a fun and mysterious piece of historical fiction. This story is full of real facts regarding the history of baseball and New England mashed together with ingenious creativity that will take you to an alternate realm and have you second-guessing reality. The story was captivating, provocative, and sexy, keeping you turning the pages until you ran out of them! The story is littered with such a sense of humor that you will literally laugh out loud. Smokey Joe’s narrative and his voice will take you on a thrilling adventure that you couldn’t possibly prepare for. I loved the play by play of the game mixed with and how DiBari used Joe's time travel to explain so many of the improvements that were made in baseball. Very clever! This book was a fantastic read and would make an amazing film. The only thing that I didn’t like about this book is when I ran out of pages to read. I can’t wait to get my hands on the second installment of Joe and Hope’s story and I eagerly anticipate the release of the next book in the Beyond Series! Way to knock it out of the park with this one, DiBari!
